ELLE DECORATION DESIGN AWARDS
September 2006
THE BEST OF BRITISH!
We reveal our shortlist of 36 brilliant British designs that all hot contenders to win the 2006 Elle Decoration Design Awards. With something for every room, it’s the definitive hotlist for homes!
So what were the best British designs launched in the last year? To qualify, pieces had to be interiors designs launched since September 2005, and be both British designed and manufactured (as the British title in a stable of 22 international editions of Elle Decoration, this is our opportunity to champion homegrown talent). Most importantly, nominations had to be original, beautiful, smart and stylish, with that extra ‘X-factor’ that distinguishes the great from the merely good design.
How does it work? The Elle Decoration team has chosen the four designs that impressed us most in each of nine categories – from best in furniture to lighting, accessories, fabric, bedrooms, wallcoverings, flooring, kitchens and bathrooms. Then an outside jury of independent industry experts select nine overall category winners which we’ll showcase in our November issue (on shelf October 4). You can also catch more coverage in our awards media partner the Telegraph Magazine during London Design Week. Plus, we’ll be unveiling our Young Designer of the Year and Designer of the Year gongs, awarded to an emerging talent and a more established name for a body of work that has really stood out from the crowd in the last year.
But it doesn’t just end at national fame and acclaim! Our winners will also be put forward as the British nominations for the Elle Decoration International Design Awards, a global talent competition decided in tandem with our Elle Decoration sister titles around the world, and announced in April during the trendsetting Milan Furniture Fair.
